The
HDFC Bank is organizing an Art Competition for
School Children for the second successive year
in 2010. This event is coinciding
with the United Nations World Habitat
day. The United Nations, prime mover the World’s
Habitat Day, has designated the first Monday of
October in every year as the World Habitat Day.
This year’s theme is identified as “Better City Better Life”
The
objective of the competition is to promote the
importance of protecting the environment and at
the same time developing the awareness of basic
human rights on adequate shelter, among the
younger generation and through them to give a
message to the society on their responsibility
to protect the environment.
The
HDFC Bank is a specialized housing bank quoted
at the Colombo Stock exchange sponsoring this
event as one of its CSR projects for the
financial year 2010 and to provide an
opportunity to developing the creative and
innovative ideas of our children on the current
theme.
The
winners of the art competition will be selected,
recognized, and rewarded by the HDFC Bank at an
award ceremony that will be held in Colombo,
October 2010 along with an exhibition covering
selected works of participants. This event is
conducted with the prior approval of the
Ministry of Education and in collaboration of
the UN Habitat office Sri Lanka.
The
participants have an added advantage in taking
part in this event, securing a prize, and they
will earn marks and/or grading which will be
taken into account for their university entrance
in the future.
The
inaugural completion
attracted
participants from all parts of the
country including north and eastern provinces.
We observed a great enthusiasm igniting not only
among the school children but also teachers and
parents. We are planning to build on the last
year’s success to facilitate larger
participation this year, said Mr. Suresh
Amerasekara, CEO of HDFC Bank.
The
different themes have been allocated to
different age groups ranging from 4 – 16
years. The competition will be opened from 02
August 2010 and
the closing date will be September 20, 2010. The
late entries will not be entertained.
The prospective students may collect the
application from any of the HDFC Bank branches
or Aesthetic Division of the Ministry of
Education. The prizes will be awarded to winners
at the district and national levels. The final
decision of winners of the competition is the
sole discretion of the Bank adjudged by a panel
of experts comprising the bank senior
management, external prominent personnel and the
Ministry.
