Mrs. Gayani Premathilake, Attorney-at-Law is presently working as the Chief Legal officer of the Ministry of Public Administration Provincial Councils and Local Government. She started her career as Legal officer Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government in 2007.

Mrs. Gayani Premathilake is a dedicated Legal Officer with over two decades of progressive experience in academia and Sri Lanka’s public sector. 

She began her  career as a Visiting Lecturer on Commercial Law at Ratnapura Technical College (2002–2004), before moving  into public service as a Legal Officer of the Ministry of Local Government & Provincial Councils in 2007, where  she continue to serve in a Legal advisory capacity.

She is an experienced Legal professional in public sector, specializing in Local Government and Provincial Council laws. 

She has served in Public Sector nearly two decades adept at identifying areas for legal reform and preparing draft bills and amendments to support effective local administration.

She committed to driving legislative improvements related to the sub national level governance in order to ensure democratic governance at the Local and Provincial levels through her expert legal knowledge. 

She holds Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from University of Colombo, Master of Human Rights from University of Colombo and Master of Laws (LLM) from Cardiff Metropolitan University of UK.
